Turkish Vans are active, healthy cats
with voracious appetites. They certainly appreciate a
good meal. We recommend a steady diet of a good
quality dry cat food, supplemented only occasionally
with treats. There are many find cat foods on the
market today, including Iams, NutriMax, Purina Pro
Plan, and Science Diet to name a few. You can find
these in most pet stores. Some Turkish Vans, once
neutered or spayed, may tend to get a bit overweight.
In these cases it is advisable to switch to a
"Light" version of their favorite food.
" Me, fat?? I'm just pleasingly
plump!"
Turkish Vans, especially kittens, are very interested
in what their human family is eating. No matter how
they plead, try to avoid overdoing feeding them table
scraps or snacks. It is very hard to break them of
this habit once you start. Baby food (turkey,
chicken, lamb) is a good occasional
treat; they love it. But we
have also had Vans that love broccoli and potatoes. I
know I don't consider that much of a treat!
Turkish Vans do not require much
grooming at all to look absolutely gorgeous. They
enjoy being brushed. Not only does it feel good but
the interaction with you is very rewarding. This also
prevents them from getting furballs. They really do
not require bathing, unless they happen to get into
something. Clip their claws on a regular basis and
also check to make sure that their ears are clean.
