Here are some restaurant recommendations from some of our club members. There are many, many restaurants in the area to choose from. We are sure you'll find one that you think is great!
Nacho Mama's for good Central American food (not quite as spicy as Mexican but the same type) and their latest venture Blue Sky Kitchen on the corner down from Nacho's, both on Broad Street close to 10th Street in downtown Augusta. For steak, try Lone Star - good variety, good salads, tasty meats - located on Washington Road across from Alexander Drive. California Dreamin', also on Washington Road past I-20 intersection, has good portions of everything, excellent salads, and marvelous Cream of Baked Potato soup. Dye's Fish Camp, on Columbia Road, just after it takes off from Washington Road, has hot, crisp, flaky catfish, yummy fried shrimp, good hushpuppies. .
A glowing review of Blue Sky Kitchen:
My favorite is the RedneckStir Fry (jasmine rice covered with black eyed peas, baby butterbeans, corn, tomatoes, etc., in a garlicy sauce, but they do other stir-fry recipes (Spinach & Potato with swiss cheese, Teriyaki). Also they offer Creole Meatloaf, Cuban Roast Pork, Korean Beef (Bulgogi), accompanied by masked potatoes, baby butterbeans and corn. Most expensive of these dinners - $7.50, portions large! I think the most pricey dinner in the house is the Sesame Ginger Tuna, which is still under $10.00. They also have salads (gigantic and varied) and sandwiches, including a Portabella, an Avocado, and a Jerk Chicken.
If you like big margaritas, give Vallarta's Mexican restaurant a try. They are located on Washington Road - the margaritas are so good, I can't remember what the food tastes like <LOL>!!
Do you like hickory smoked BBQ?? If yes, then you must visit Bobby's BBQ while you are in the area. Take Hwy 1 north towards Aiken, South Carolina. About half-way (10 miles or so) on the right is a big country style building on a lake - this is Bobby's. Served buffet style - you can select from freshly smoked pork BBQ, ribs, and chicken with an assortment of salads and sides. Very reasonably priced and you won't leave hungry!
The French Market Grill is known for its New Orleans style food and atmosphere. The shrimp etouffe is really good. They also have a diverse selection of beers. It is located in Surrey Center on Highland Avenue between Washington Road and Wheeler Road plus a new location off of Fury's Ferry Road.
A couple of recommendations for places in Augusta's River Walk area - Downtown. They are Boll Weevil's which is located at #10 9th Street and is reported as having over 30 wonderful desserts! Augustino's which is in the Radisson Hotel on the RiverWalk has good pasta.
